Default Making Items Public

Ok, there are some complaint-threads about Solo-Monks and so on, who kill the party to solo farm. Or people who aren't rezz, because there is an Ecto which other people want to get.

So, here is my idea:

Make it that items will never ''go public", so that if you don't allow the item to 'go public', no-one is able to take the item.

You can select per item that you don't wan't/can't get (because of death), that it can go public. If you don't make it public, it will never go public.
Not even when you leave the party.

It will be possible that items 'go public' when you leave, if you select a certain option before going into a mission.

I know this idea is a little vague i guess, but I'll work it out a little more when there is a lot of positive response.

I like this idea, ive never been screwed over but i hear a lot of storys about monks being big meanies...

Im not sure if its exactly what your saying but letting the player its droped for decide if it goes public or not sounds like a good idea... except that its basicly the same as picking it up and droping it again... however i guess it kinda saves some time... if of course thats what your suggesting...

I don't understand why items go public. Anything a player doesn't pick up should appear in the "unclaimed items" window the next time s/he goes to town. The go-public thing just causes grief.

I agree. items have no business going public till you leave the map.

I suggest a pull down menu availble by clicking on the item to realease it if you do not want it.

First off... I like the many positive reactions and I'll try to make it into a better suggestion this weekend.

Exactly what I am suggesting, about the picking and dropping stuff, when you are dead you can't pick loot up . And sometimes your inventory is so full that you just need to look for the last spot there to put it in and then drop it.

Think about the cons as well please, when a guildie has net error=7, and another takes the item and gives it to him/her later...

That option is of no more use if this plan is gonna be introduced..

first of all i think the main problem of this is that the invetories arent big enough. i always have to clean out stuff i dont want to and sumtimes i even have to sell really good items that could go fo more.
addressing the issues about publice items, well ive never seen this happen nor have i seen anyone elses doing. it dosent happen to me because the second i see a gold chaos ax drop i dont just sit around killing monsters, i haul my butt over to pik it up even if i die sooon after. The only problem with this is that agian u may not have enough space. so i think its ok for items to go public after a while, (because alot of the time the person that dosent pik up the item never does and it becomes a waste of a perfectly good godly item), just as long as we get more space in our invetory, alot more space.

I think this is the answer to Antisocial's problem. However, I am sorry that I don't know if this is technically possible, Anet has shown true skill in programming before and might be able to program this as well.

I don't really understand Daggerbird his problem with this idea, you say that it's ok for items to go public, which in my idea totally up to you. If you want items to go public, you can do that.

I don't believe this answers Antisocial's issue. Assuming I understood properly. Upon going into a mission I do not select this certain option to allow items to go public to prevent greedy, bad player from taking my drops by not rezzing me. However, if I don't die but get disconnected before I could pickup, the item will remain assigned to me and friend/guildie will not be able to pick it up for me because I have selected items not to go public.

I think dagger bird just has an issue with inventory space.

That is why, if you leave a map, all of the items assigned to you need to go public.

For dagger bird:

if the items go to your unclaimed items window an err=7 is the same as any other disconnect. the next time you go to town, there is the item you couldn't pick up. there is no need for items to go public if they just make more use of the unclaimed items window.

but i do like the idea of being able to make public an item on the ground, or maybe even assign it to a different player (so someone else in the party doesnt grab the item you wanted your guildie to pick up). i love options. more options = good.

Ok, what about making three options before entering a mission:
-Items Always go public when I leave the map
-Items only 'go public' to people on my friendslist and guildmembers when I leave the map
-Items will never go public

Also, it should be adjustable while in a mission, so that if you have to leave because of other things you can still make your items (partially) public.

Now you are just being greedy. You do not want to pick up the items, but you want them to come with you wherever you go.

NO, you have to physically pick up and item, unless it is one of the instances that already have the unclaimed item setup.

Otherwise, the items should go directly to your inventory and very few people have room for that.

Besides the coding if far more advanced for that, than to remove the timer for items to go public.

Jesus!!!! still with the far out ideas!!!!!

The answer is simple.

Remove the timer for items to go public. That is all that needs to happen. All this other wishywashy stuff is completely unnecessary and the programmers have much more important stuff to work than that.

I too think that the more options you have the better. I like the idea of haveing the different settings. It would take a good amount of code to pull it off, but I think that they could do it if they really wanted to. But either way I think that they should remove the timer.

Heh, does no one here realize the easiest solution yet?

Keep the timer as it is, but freeze the timer when the character is dead. In other words, someone must be alive for 5 minutes (or whatever) before the item becomes public. Now no one can steal your items when you are dead, because the timer is frozen. Once you are brought back to life, then the timer starts.

Simple.

This idea is so stupid I don't even know how to begin.

What if after you left a guildie unknowingly invited this <malicious> unguilded person into your guild? Suddenly he can help himself to your loot!

Timer on items should not time out when the person is dead, apart from that there should be no more concessions.
